Counselor

My focus is to help children overcome the difficulties that they are being faced with in their life. Teaching them the skills to change, cope, and/or how to redirect their lives into a happier easier one that they so deserve. All while doing so in a fun and acceptable language that they can comprehend and understand. Assisting family members towards an easier path, so that they too can teach their children these same skills in a way that is accepted and understood.

I utilize many types of therapy theories such as CBT,Play therapy, Person Centered, and Reality Therapy. I work to adjust thoughts and behaviors which will then adjust emotions providing a happy and successful life, even while being faced with the difficult things that the family or child may be dealing with currently.

Many things come our way that we feel are unjust or possibly too hard to face, counseling may be the answer to what you are looking for. Together, we can work to find happiness and peace for your life and to overcome anything you are facing right now that seems too difficult to face alone.

Richard F. Kutner, MD

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Dr Kutner loves his working as a child and adolescent psychiatrist. When not working, however, he’s enjoying his three beautiful daughters, wife of over 20 years and their devoted dog. Hobbies include taking walks, reading, and traveling. Dr Kutner thoroughly enjoyed his education and loves learning more every day on how to provide better care for all of the patients in the clinic.

He proudly trained at Tulane University School of Medicine where he continued to complete a Residency in Psychiatry and a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr Kutner enjoys passing along what he has learned, he was Chief Resident during his training program and it’s not uncommon to find professionals in training (including nurse practitioner students, doctors in training, and physician assistant students) shadowing Dr. Kutner through the clinic. He very proudly served in the US Air Force, and the United States Public Health Service Corps. Doctor Kutner loves to eat (especially his wife’s cooking) and is an avid Saint’s Fan. There are rumors that he once lived in Oklahoma but this was so long ago, records are scarce…

Dr Kutner feels very blessed to work with the amazing staff at Acadian Care. He describes the clinicians as being absolutely incredible and the support staff as being second to none. “Every person working at Acadian Care has three jobs: to care, care, and care.” To have such a concentration of hard working professionals all with the same mission is a very fortunate thing indeed. Dr Kutner and his staff work very, very hard to maintain and improve upon the services offered and enjoy the challenge of finding new and better ways to help out the community.

Clinically, Dr Kutner believes in: conservative care, working with parents to understand their wants and needs with regards to their child’s treatment, informing parents about treatment options and including children in the therapeutic decision making as their age allows. He believes in giving children as much hope as possible that things will get better and having the utmost belief in his patients and their families. For Doctor Kutner, treatment is built on a foundation of caring about one’s environment and the people who make up our lives. When Dr. Kutner treats his patient he pays attention to their medical needs, lifestyle needs such as sleep and exercise, a supportive family life and scholastic environment, and cultural values and morals. A foundation for care needs to be established and maintained to best provide for an optimal recovery. Dr. Kutner understands it takes an entire community working together to help a child. Parents, grandparents, teachers, clergy, therapists, pediatricians, coaches, and many others all work together to help a child overcome the obstacles in their way.

Dr Kutner believes that good things are coming, that the children being raised now are the best kids ever; they are smart, they care, they are clever, understanding and forgiving. He’s very proud to be a member of the Northshore and New Orleans community and looks forward to doing the best he can, for as long as he can, to help make our world a better place than we found it.

“I believe that the best opportunity and the biggest impact to helping people is when they are children. It is where problems many times begin and should be addressed in order to help bring out the fullest potential for success and happiness. As a therapist, I work closely with the family to help open lines of communication and guide children in the right direction.”

Craig Fredin, LPC, LMFT

Counselor

Craig is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with 13 years experience working with children, adolescents, couples, and families. He provides counseling to individuals and families dealing with a wide range of issues including: Behavior, Anger, Anxiety (OCD and Generalized), Depression, Male Issues, Marital problems, Divorce, Grief, PTSD, Parenting Support, and other family issues.

He also teaches Psychology courses and develops Service Learning projects (volunteer learning) at a local college. In his free time, Craig enjoys spending time with his wife and son, traveling, fishing and the occasional game of pick-up basketball.

His therapeutic approach is eclectic, depending on the type of problem being addressed; every child is unique and can benefit from choosing from a range of possible treatment options. While systemic in nature, he gravitates towards cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, family systems, and structural family therapy. His approach is rather straightforward and is a lot of weight is placed on the counselee’s requested goals.

Craig believes each person or family who seeks counseling comes with unique experiences and concerns. One will find that a relationship between the counselor and counselee will be characterized by professional dignity, expertise, understanding, and acceptance. Therapy is a learning process and a process of change for those involved, which aims to help them understand themselves and others as well as the interactions that occur between the participants and significant others. It is also essential to achieve enhanced functioning as an individual, couple, or family so that healthy interactions are established and greater satisfaction is attained.

My focus is to help children and adolescents who have anxiety, depression, grief, and divorce issues. I enjoy working with parents to help them understand and manage their child’s difficulties. My goal as a counselor is to teach the client skills to manage feelings, thoughts, and behaviors so that they can be happy and successful. I believe that counseling is about the relationship between the client and the therapist working together to find a path to recovery. That it is through this relationship, in a safe environment, the client is able to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behavior to find patterns and develop new skills to manage their life.
